SVA Faculty and Alumni Nominated for Documentary Awards

October 26, 2012

Several members of the SVA community are up for awards for their work on documentary films. MFA Social Documentary Film Department Chair Maro Chermayeff, faculty members Matthew Akers (1998 BFA Fine Arts) and Donna Shepherd, and department guest lecturer Jeff Dupre are up for a Gotham Independent Film Award in the “Best Documentary” category for their collaboration on Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present (watch a trailer below), which follows the Serbian performance artist as she prepares for a retrospective of her work at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.  The 2012 Gotham Independent Film Awards will be held on November 26 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

Two alumni from the 2011 MFA Social Documentary Film Department have been nominated for a David L. Wolper Student Documentary Award by the International Documentary Association (IDA):  Mark Kendall for La Camioneta, and Bao Nguyen for Julian. The 28th IDA Documentary Awards will take place December 7 at the Director’s Guild in Los Angeles.
