The talents of SVA faculty, students and alumni will be on full display at New York ComicCon 2012, taking place at the Jacob Javits Center, 655 West 34th Street, October 11 – 14. Renowned illustrator and comic book artist Nathan Fox will make his first appearance at the convention as chair of SVA’s new MFA Visual Narrative Department. At Booth #2370 in the small press area, Fox will be joined by fellow department faculty members Matt Rota and Ben Zackheim, as well as guest artist Ben Marra, illustrator and designer Jeff Rogers, and author and playwright Mark Sable. The group will showcase their books, prints and professional practice through signings and art-demo events and Fox will be on hand to discuss the new program he’s heading up.
BFA Illustration and Cartooning Department faculty member Keith Mayerson, along with members of SVA’s cartooning club, Cartoon Allies, will have a booth showcasing an assortment of mini comics created by the students, as well as a display of their favorite images in print form produced by themselves, their friends and colleagues. There will also be a number of comic magazines from notable BFA Illustration and Cartooning Department alumni, in addition to the senior cartooning magazine and the department’s annual portfolio.
New York ComicCon attracted over 105,000 attendees in 2011, making it the second largest comic book and pop culture gathering in the country. And Crain’s New York Business has ranked NYCC as the second largest event in New York City. For more information and for tickets, visit the ComicCon website.
