FatCat GameWorks recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to develop Chris Hastings’s (BFA 2005 Illustration and Cartooning) popular Web comic, “The Adventures of Dr. McNinja,” into a game that would be available on iOS, Android, and PC/Mac in addition to the Web. For every $7,500 raised in excess of the campaign goal of $15,000, FatCat has pledged to develop another chapter for the game from the Dr. McNinja archives.
Dr. McNinja, created in 2004 while Hastings was studying at SVA, chronicles the precarious exploits of a man with a superhero complex: by night he is a mercenary, and by day, a life-saving physician. His humorously complex life also includes odd friends like a pre-teen with a full mustache, a gorilla who also works as his receptionist, and a purple giant who sells used cars. The comic—unlike most of the 3-panel comics found on the web—is written like a physical comic book, and is updated with new pages posted three times per week. In 2007, the comic won the Web Cartoonists’ Choice Award for Outstanding Superhero/Action Comic.
