MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department faculty member Viktor Koen presents “Viktorian: Alphabets, Steampunks, Weapons & Toys,” a solo show on view through September 24 at London’s The Coningsby Gallery, 30 Tottenham Street.
Among the works on display are Dark Peculiar Toys and its typographical companion, Toyphabet. Also part of the exhibit, and on view for the first time ever, is Warheads, a triptych of life-size prints of men with military weapons for heads, and its accompanying piece, Warphabet. In addition, selections from Koen’s unfinished Bestiary, which combines influences from Greek mythology and archival photography to produce a set of characters that are distinguishable as neither heroes nor beasts.
