Artillery Artists, a collaboration between several SVA alumni, recently raised nearly twice their fundraising goal for an upcoming exhibition using Kickstarter. Carolyn Jao (BFA 2011 Illustration), Jake Blake (BFA 2011 Illustration), Yuri Leonov (BFA 2011 Illustration) and Joseph Perrotto (BFA 2011 Illustration) used the SVA curated page on the Web site to raise the funds for their joint show, “Plexus.”
Kickstarter is the “largest funding platform for creative projects in the world,” according to the Web site. Registrants set a monetary goal, and if they are unable to reach it by their deadline, they receive none of the pledges from their would-be donors.
The Artillery Artists started with a goal of $1,200, but were able to raise a total of $2,251 for the exhibition, which will be on view June 19 – July 3 at the Dacia Gallery, 53 Stanton Street. The opening reception is scheduled for June 23 from 6 – 10pm and will feature a diverse selection of works by the four organizing artists.
Several other members of the SVA community have used Kickstarter to fund their projects. To view them, visit the SVA curated page here.
