In the Press: Eliana Ujueta on WPIX Channel 11 Morning News

May 24, 2011

Alumnus Eliana Ujueta (MFA 2010 Photography, Video and Related Media) was recently profiled in the New York Daily News and interviewed on WPIX Channel 11 Morning News about her thesis film, Beneath the Rock, which screened at the SoHo International Film Festival in April.

Ujueta, a 10-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, used many of her own experiences as a cop patrolling the city streets to inform the feature-length film. Beneath the Rock is a fictionalized narrative inspired by an urban legend from Ujueta’s neighborhood in Bushwick, Brooklyn, about a young girl who mysteriously died in an alley behind the police precinct and how this event impacts the local community. Interwoven into the tale are stories of illegal underground activities, drug trafficking and gambling.

The next screening of Beneath the Rock will be at the East Harlem International Film Festival on June 4, 7pm in the Poet’s Den Theater.
