In The Press: M. Henry Jones in WSJ

March 14, 2011

Alumnus M. Henry Jones (BFA 1979 Film and Video) recently had his work presented in a retrospective at Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan. Writing about the event in The Wall Street Journal, Bruce Bennett says, “the program, curated by Steve Holmgren, encompasses three decades of film and video, from a 1974 Kodak Teenage Movie Award-winning short to current works in progress.”

Describing his own work, Jones says that much of the earlier pieces, “visually counterpoint the structure of the music that is being featured,” and argues that music videos existed before MTV did. Relating the process of making a short film for the Fleshtones‘ “Soul City,” Bennett highlights how meticulous and painstaking it was then and how Jones’ work has developed since then.
