Lines around the block greeted visitors to the annual BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department Portfolio Exhibition at the Art Directors Club on Tuesday, March 29. Featuring work by current students, the exhibition included advertisements, campaigns and digital video pieces. The physical centerpiece of the show were the latest creations from 3D Design Chair Kevin O’Callaghan’s students: church pews that had been reimagined into kitchens, ATMs, movie-theater seats, sports locker rooms, computer terminals and more. O’Callaghan bought 31 pews from a church under renovation in Newark, NJ, and presented the class assignment, “Design or illustrate a church pew to make a statement about something you worship.”
The results of the assignment, as well as portfolio work from students in advertising, graphic design and motion graphics classes, are on view at the Art Directors Club, 106 West 29th Street, through Friday, April 8. To see more images from the opening reception, visit our Facebook gallery.
