Honor Roll: Alumni Community and ALA Awards

February 7, 2011

The American Library Association Awards guide parents, educators, librarians and others in selecting the best materials for young readers. This year two alumni have been selected for ALA awards: Eric Velasquez (BFA 1983 Illustration), for his book Grandma’s Gift (Walker Books for Young Readers, 2010), in the Pura Belpre (Illustrator) Award section (honoring a Latino illustrator whose children’s books best portray, affirm and celebrate the Latino cultural experience); and a Robert F. Sibert Medal went to Brian Floca (MFA 2001 Illustration as Visual Essay), for his illustrations in Ballet for Martha: Making Appalachian Spring (Flash Point, 2010).
