Winterhouse Symposium on Design Education and Social Change

December 3, 2010

MFA Design Criticism Department faculty member Julie Lasky and her colleague William Drenttel brought together 13 educators from a variety of design and business programs, including Allan Chochinov (faculty member, MFA Design Department), for the Winterhouse Symposium on Design Education.

The symposium was the first time that faculty from many of the top social-innovation programs in the country—including both design and business schools—came together to talk bout the major issues in their field. Participants discussed the challenges and objectives of social-change initiatives, among other related topics. Drenttel said of the symposium, “We successfully mapped a plan for sharing case studies and developing a more systematic approach to documenting both teaching programs and social change programs. It is our intent to gather a larger group of schools invested in social change in the coming year.”
