Conceived as an ambitious video time capsule, the international project One Day on Earth invites documentary filmmakers, students and citizens all over the world to record human experience through video or photography over a 24-hour period on Sunday, October 10 (10.10.10). The organizers have partnered with the United Nations Development Programme and hope to create the largest participatory media event in history, with participants in every country. The footage will be compiled and made into a feature-length documentary in 2011 and be made available in a public online archive so participants can extract clips to edit into their own videos.
Although the video for this project won’t be shot until October 10, members of the SVA community have already begun to contribute. Along with the animation studio Alien Kung Fu and BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department faculty member and alumnus Jean Marco Ruesta (BFA 2004 Graphic Design), alumni helped create a promotional video about the project, working on everything from creative direction to animation to live action direction. The participating alumni are James Gundersen (BFA 2009 Graphic Design), Edwin “Senik” Lozano (BFA 2010 Graphic Design), Charlie No (BFA 2004 Graphic Design), Akira Uchinokura (BFA 2010 Graphic Design) and Samantha Raquel Zahabian (BFA 2010 Graphic Design).
The project is free and open to all; visit the Participate page to learn how to sign up and submit your video footage.
