Luxury wristwatch retailer Movado is teaming up with SVA for Fashion’s Night Out, a citywide event taking place on Friday, September 10. MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department alumnus Kelley Hensing (2010) and two students currently in the program—Jungyeon Roh (BFA 2009 Illustration) and Will Varner—will be in the windows of Movado’s showcase Rockefeller Center store, at 610 Fifth Avenue, creating original paintings. Starting at 5pm, the trio of artists will each paint a new work inspired by René Magritte’s iconic The Son of Man (1964) and incorporate a Movado watch into the image. The completed paintings will subsequently be on display in the store.
In addition to the display of artistic creation in action, the event will also showcase a series of new Movado watch designs by alumnus Kenny Scharf (BFA 1981 Fine Arts). Scharf’s six limited-edition watches are part of Movado’s ongoing Artists’ Series, which includes commissions from Andy Warhol and James Rosenquist, among others.
