On September 16, illustrator James McMullan began a new series on The New York Times Web site called Line By Line. McMullan taught drawing at SVA for more than two decades and turned his popular High-Focus Drawing classes into a 1994 book, and more recently contributed the James McMullan Collection to the Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives. In the Times series, he plans to address several aspects of the art and craft of drawing, including entries on perspective, proportion and structure.
Read the introduction to Line by Line, “Getting Back to the Phantom Skill,” and check out this summer’s SVA Annual 2010, which focuses on the past, present and future of drawing at the College.
