Cable-TV channel Bravo has new reality show this summer, titled Work of Art: The Next Great Artist, produced by Sarah Jessica Parker, which premiered Wednesday, June 9, 11pm ET. The show applies the familiar reality-competition format to a group of 14 up-and-coming visual artists, all of whom are vying for the top prize: a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum.
Each Work of Art artist will face a panel of judges, which includes New York magazine critic and MFA Fine Arts Department faculty member Jerry Saltz. In a video interview with Saltz posted on Bravo’s site, he says, “The contestants on Work of Art will be judged the way I judge any work of art…I’m looking for originality. I don’t want them just to try to win—trying to win is probably the best way to lose.”
