On Tuesday, April 14, at the Visual Arts Gallery, the BFA Photography Department hosted a reception for “Mentors,” its annual exhibition of work by students inspired by their working relationships with key figures in the New York arts community. A large crowd gathered at the Chelsea gallery to meet select students in the department’s graduating class who had been paired up with mentors based on their concentration and the mentor’s area of expertise.
This year’s mentors include photographers Ari Marcopoulos, Sally Gall and Gregory Crewdson, as well as legendary creative director Fabien Baron (who is currently editorial director at Interview magazine); alumnus Harris Savides (BFA 1982 Film and Video), cinematographer for the films Milk (2008), American Gangster (2007) and Zodiac (2007); and Philip Gefter, New York Times writer and former front page photo editor.
The exhibition is curated by Department Chair Stephen Frailey and will be on view through Saturday, April 25, at the Visual Arts Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th Floor.
