The Israeli animated documentary Waltz With Bashir, which recently received an Academy Award nomination and won the Golden Globe Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category, features backgrounds created by alumnus Tomer Hanuka (BFA 2000 Illustration). In addition to this latest prize, the film has already taken honors from the Israeli Academy Awards and the National Society of Film Critics. Hanuka’s illustrations are part of the film’s unusual approach to documenting an era in Israeli military history, with audio of soldiers’ detailed recollections brought to life with starkly drawn animated visuals.
