The Alumni Society of School of Visual Arts is hosting the 2008 Alumni Society Auction on Tuesday, September 23, at the Visual Arts Gallery, located at 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor. The biennial benefit auction is held to raise substantial funds to provide scholarships to SVA students, as well as to honor individuals who have made significant artistic contributions to the SVA community and New York City. The 2008 honorees are photographer and BFA Photography Department mentor Gregory Crewdson; photographer and alumnus Lorna Simpson (BFA 1982 Photography); and sculptor and faculty member Lynda Benglis.
The event, hosted by artist and faculty member Tim Rollins (BFA 1997 Fine Arts), will include both a live and silent auction featuring 80 paintings, sculptures, photographs and works on paper by SVA alumni, faculty and friends, including: Robert Mangold (former faculty), Marilyn Minter (faculty), Elizabeth Peyton (1987 Fine Arts), Mika Rottenberg (BFA 2001 Fine Arts) and Phoebe Washburn (MFA 2002 Fine Arts); to view the online catalog, visit www.sva.edu/auction.
