The Visual Arts Press has added several more design awards to its already impressive collection of industry kudos. The AIGA handed out three of its annual awards to the Press for its work on the BFA Photography Department portfolio, class of 2007; Thunderstruck, the portfolio magazine of the BFA Illustration and Cartooning Department; and the SVA undergraduate catalog. The selections, chosen from among more than 4,300 entries, will be mounted as a public exhibition scheduled to open at the AIGA National Design Center in New York in December 2008. In addition, the show will travel to AIGA chapters, student groups and galleries throughout the country during 2009.
Also, SVA’s design shop won an honorable mention in the American Association of Museums’ (AAM) annual design competition for the catalog for the fall 2007 exhibition, “Click Chic: The Fine Art of Fashion Photography.” SVA went on to win top honors from the AAM for the poster for “Steven Heller: The Masters Series,” and honorable mentions for the invitation and catalog for that show; design credit for these pieces goes to longtime faculty member Paula Scher and colleagues at Pentagram.
