The BFA Film, Video and Animation Department is once again getting ready for its year-end festival of student thesis work: the 19th Annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards will showcase over 100 films by students graduating from the department over five days of screenings of short films, videos and animations, May 5 – 9. A new wrinkle for this year’s Dustys is the venue: all screenings will take place in the just-opened Visual Arts Theater, 333 West 23rd Street, a two-screen cinema recently acquired by SVA.
In addition to the screenings, the Dustys will include a screenwriters night, where professional actors read excerpts of screenplays by graduating seniors in the screenwriting program (Tuesday, May 6, 6pm); an animation sidebar, showing hand-drawn and stop-motion animation work (Thursday, May 8, 7 – 11pm); and an awards ceremony and after party with notable presenters from the film industry (Monday, May 12, 7pm). For more information or to get tickets to the awards ceremony, contact 212.592.2124; all screenings at the Visual Arts Theater are free and open to the public.
