The College’s spring exhibition schedule typically overflows with thesis and portfolio work from students on the brink of graduation. To make room for all of these shows, SVA is expanding its exhibition space to include the headquarters of two NYC-based organizations for arts professionals, the Art Directors Club (ADC) and the National Arts Club (NAC). Two shows from the BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department are being staged at the ADC, 106 West 29th Street: the department’s spring exhibition, featuring ads, campaigns, designs and motion graphics, will be on view April 7 – 18, with an opening reception on Wednesday, April 9, 6 – 8pm. Next up is “Horsepower: A 3D Design Exhibition,” in which graphic design students interpret a world without oil by using the horse-drawn carriage of yesterday as a point of departure, reinventing it to take on the task of today’s energy-challenged world. Curated by 3D Design Chair Kevin O’Callaghan, “Horsepower,” is at the ADC April 21 – 25, with a reception on Tuesday, April 22, 6 – 8pm.
Also in April, the NAC, 15 Gramercy Park South, will be the location for the BFA Interior Design Department thesis exhibition, featuring senior projects from the department. This show runs April 22 – 28, with a reception for the artists on Thursday, April 24, 5:30 – 7pm.
