The MFA Art Criticism and Writing Department is presenting a lecture by writer and critic Barry Schwabsky entitled Art as Project. The talk will explore the idea that art is neither image nor object, but a project. Schwabsky is the author of many works of art criticism, including The Widening Circle: Consequences of Modernism in Contemporary Art (Cambridge University Press) and contributions to Vitamin P: New Perspectives in Painting (Phaidon Press), Jessica Stockholder (Phaidon Press) and Gillian Wearing: Mass Observation (Merrill Publishers). He has taught at Goldsmiths College, New York University and Yale University and is a regular contributor to Artforum.
This lecture will take place on Tuesday, April 1, 7pm, in the Amphitheater, 209 East 23rd Street, 3rd floor, and is free and open to the public.
