BFA Photography Department alumnus Brian Finke (1998) has a new book in stores. Flight Attendants (Powerhouse Books, 2008) contains over 100 pages documenting the titular subjects, which Finke photographed during two years worth of travels on Delta, Hawaiian, Hooters Air, JetBlue, Song and Southwest airlines in America; Air France, British Airways and Qantas in Europe; as well as Air Asia, Cathay Pacific, Icelandair, Tiger and other international carriers. The book mixes shots of the attendants working at 40,000 feet up alongside photos of their down time and personal moments. The monograph follows in the footsteps of Finke’s previous examination of American high-school sports culture, 2-4-6-8: American Cheerleaders and Football Players (Umbrage Editions, 2003).
In conjunction with the publication of Flight Attendants, the ClampArt gallery is presenting a solo exhibition of Finke’s photographs from the book. “Brian Finke: Flight Attendants” is on view at ClampArt, 521-531 West 25th Street, through Saturday, March 22.
