Year of the Rat

January 18, 2008

Each year, the U.S. Postal Service issues a series of commemorative stamps honoring important people and events. The 2008 editions begin with a stamp celebrating the Chinese New Year, illustrated by alumnus Kam Mak (BFA 1984 Illustration). Mak’s stamp, Celebrating Lunar New Year: Year of the Rat, features celebratory red paper lanterns with intricate gold and yellow decorations. Mak was born in Hong Kong and moved with his family to New York in 1971; he grew up in NYC’s Chinatown district and now resides in Brooklyn.
