  • Artists Talk on Art presents: Friday, January 18, Eco-Conscious Artists, a panel discussion featuring artists from the recent group exhibition “Paved Paradise” at the Allen Gallery, New York; and Friday, January 25, Is Video Art New Again? Artists Liselot van der Heijden and Stephanie Lempert examine the state of video art with Louky Keijsers, director of LMAK Projects, a gallery focusing on interdisciplinary practices with an emphasis on film and video art. ATOA events take place at 7pm in the Amphitheater, 209 East 23rd Street, 3rd floor. Admission is free for SVA students, faculty, staff and ATOA members; $7 regular admission; $3 for SVA alumni, non-SVA students and seniors.
  • MFA Fine Arts Department Open Studios: 141 West 21st Street, 8th and 9th floors: Saturday, December 15, 12 noon – 6pm; Reception: Friday, December 14, 5 – 9pm.
  • Camera Club of New York Presents: Tierney Gearon: Best known for arresting images of her family, photographer Tierney Gearon came to prominence with a 2001 exhibition at London’s Saatchi Gallery, where nude portraits of her children set off a media controversy. In a new book, Daddy Where Are You? (Steidl, 2007), Gearon revisits her relationship with her family through revealing tableaux and portraits of her mother. Tuesday, January 22, 7pm, Amphitheater, 209 East 23rd Street, 3rd floor. Admission is free for SVA students and Camera Club members; other students (with ID) $5; regular admission $10.
  • Design Criticism Reading: The next installment of the MFA Design Criticism Department’s reading series explores the spaces where music and design converge, with Stuart Bailey, Sasha Frere Jones, Rob Giampietro and Jody Rosen. Wednesday, January 23, 7 – 9pm, KGB Bar, 85 East 4th Street. Admission is free.
