From December 5 – 9, Art Basel Miami Beach and its numerous satellite art fairs put south Florida at the center of the art universe. This year, SVA became the first college of art and design selected to participate in a Miami art fair. The College presented artwork by more than a dozen recent graduates at Aqua Wynwood; the SVA booth was curated by Dan Halm (MFA 2001 Illustration as Visual Essay; BFA 1994 Illustration), coordinator of external relations.
In addition to the booth, the College played host to the dozens of alumni who stopped by SVA’s after party at Miami’s Karu VIP Lounge. Associate Director of Development and Alumni Affairs Elaine Chow (MFA 2002 Fine Arts) says, “SVA alumni were at every fair that I attended in the area. It really drove home the idea that SVA is everywhere.” Faculty member Stefan Sagmeister hosted a star-studded crowd for the unveiling of his new work at the Wolfsonian museum; elsewhere, members of the SVA community took part in the inaugural Geisai Miami fair, produced by artist Takashi Murakami, and were present in and around Art Basel throughout the week.
