The members of SVA’s faculty are all accomplished professionals in their fields, and there’s never any shortage of their work on display in the city’s galleries. MFA Design Department faculty member Maira Kalman is presenting several of the original gouache paintings used for her online journal that ran on The New York Times’ Web site from June 2006 – May 2007. “The Principles of Uncertainty”—an exhibition at Julie Saul Gallery, 535 West 22nd Street, October 11 – November 24—coincides with the publication of a book of the same name, collecting the entire year of online columns in printed form.
Also on view in New York City are MFA Fine Arts Department faculty member and alumnus Nicolas Touron’s (MFA 2003 Fine Arts) “Circus,” a selection of drawings and paintings at Virgil de Voldère Gallery, 526 West 26th Street, 4th floor, through Saturday, October 20; and David Sandlin, a member of the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department faculty, will have work in the show “Snack Isle,” which is comprised of hundreds of small-form artworks by a large group of artists, at Giant Robot, 437 East 9th Street, through Wednesday, October 17.
