Alumnus Margaret Lanzetta (MFA 1989 Fine Arts) has just received a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship. From November 2007 – June 2008, Lanzetta will working with the Ministry of Culture in Damascus, Syria, and the University of Baroda in Vadodara, India, to do research for a project entitled The Confluence of Cultural References Manifested as Pattern in Syrian and Indian Textiles and Tiles. The Fulbright Scholar Program, which is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, has been the U.S. government’s flagship academic exchange effort for more than 50 years.
Another recent award winner is Michael Distelkamp (BFA 2007 Film and Video), whose short film Paper Girl won prizes for Best Film, Best Cinematography and Best Actress at the Staten Island Directors Chair Film Festival. The movie was Distelkamp’s SVA thesis project, and won awards for cinematography and editing at the College’s 2007 Dusty Film and Animation Festival.
