Last week, the feature film Mr. Woodcock went into wide release around the country. The movie was directed by alumnus Craig Gillespie (BFA 1989 Advertising) and stars Susan Sarandon, Billy Bob Thornton and Seann William Scott. Mr. Woodcock is Gillespie’s first feature film, following an impressive string of TV commercials for companies such as Citibank, Fruit of the Loom and Holiday Inn. His next movie, Lars and the Real Girl, is due out in October and stars Patricia Clarkson and Ryan Gosling.
Also, BFA Film, Video and Animation faculty member Joan Brooker-Marks is the director of the recently released documentary Larry Flynt: The Right to Be Left Alone. The film chronicles the life of Hustler founder and free-speech advocate Larry Flynt, who was part of a precendent-setting Supreme Court case against evangelist Jerry Falwell and continues to be a force in American politics.
