Walk into the MoMA Design Store (at the museum’s Midtown location at 11 West 53rd Street, and in SoHo, 81 Spring Street) and one of SVA’s faculty members is front and center: Jeffrey Metzner, who oversees the Motion Graphics program in the BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department, has created a line of products inspired by nine works from MoMA’s collection, based on his book, STICK: Great Moments in Art History, Film and More… (Clarkson Potter). The book re-imagines classic visuals from art history, movies and television in stick-figure form, and Metzner has exported the concept to specially designed mugs, coasters, t-shirts, magnets and more. The complete line is available from MoMA in its stores, or online at www.momastore.org.
Also new in stores is the DVD Paul Bowles: The Complete Outsider (First Run Features), a documentary film co-produced/directed by Humanities and Sciences Department faculty member Regina Weinreich. The disc contains a one-hour documentary about the enigmatic Beat writer, along with interviews with the filmmakers and a new interview with Ned Rorem, a contemporary of Bowles’.
