A Real Dust-Up

On Monday, April 30, the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department hosted its annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival Awards, honoring the year’s best student work. A capacity crowd gathered at the Directors Guild Theatre, where the following winners were announced: Minhyun Park, Outstanding Achievement in Film; Ishaan Nair, Outstanding Achievement in Directing; Robert Carnevale, Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography; Michael Distelkamp and I-Chun Liu, Outstanding Achievement in Editing; Anat Vovnoboy, Outstanding Achievement in Documentary; Chester Knebel, Outstanding Achievement in Traditional Animation; Chelsea Manifold, Outstanding Achievement in Stop-Motion Animation; Sybil Cubillette, Outstanding Achievement in Character Design; Michael Dolan and Keil Troisi, Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting. In addition, the Human Spirit Award went to Sung Sook Jung, the National Board of Review scholarship winners were Kevin Heng-Yi Shen and Sean Dermond, and Lisa Tuvalo received the Women in Film grant.


The gala evening was emceed by faculty member Gene Stavis, and awards were handed out by such film-industry notables as actor Chazz Palminteri and Oscar-winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker.
