The MPS Art Therapy Department was founded in the fall semester of 2001, and has been providing training to the next wave of art therapists ever since. That work has been officially recognized by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), which has just accredited the program. This accreditation indicates that the program meets the official education standards of the AATA and offers a high quality of art therapy education based on the organization’s criteria of approval. It also acknowledges the program’s commitment to the AATA’s stated purposes and goals.
The department also has an event on campus this week. Tammy Nelson, MS, ATR, LADC, LPC, CIT, will give a lecture entitled Couples Counseling and Art Therapy. The talk will concentrate on Imago relationship therapy, which focuses on building trust in relationships through communication skills that create safety. The event takes place on Wednesday, May 16, 6:30 – 8:30pm, at 132 West 21st Street, 3rd floor. Free admission; attendees must RSVP to 212.592.2610 or [email protected].
