On January 10, the U.S. Postal Service issued its 30th commemorative stamp in the Black Heritage series: a 39-cent stamp bearing the likeness of jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. The stamp features an illustration by distinguished alumnus Paul Davis (G 1959 Illustration), based on a photograph of Fitzgerald from 1956. The USPS is currently selling the stamp for use as standard postage, along with several collector’s items associated with the new stamp; for more information, click here.
In other illustration news, BFA Illustration and Cartooning Department faculty member Victoria Kann has written a play with her sister, Elizabeth Kann, called Pinkalicious, The Musical, based on their children’s book Pinkalicious (HarperCollins). The musical show, about a girl who eats so many pink cupcakes that she turns pink, is onstage at the Vital Theatre, 2162 Broadway and 76th Street, 4th Floor, through February 25, Saturdays and Sundays 11am and 1pm; additional shows: Wednesday, February 21 at 1pm and Friday, February 23 at 1pm. There’s also a special workshop for kids, Wednesday, February 21 and Friday, February 23 at 2pm, after the 1pm show.
