The College’s Chelsea exhibition space, the Visual Arts Gallery, is set to debut four simultaneous shows from the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department. “Being There,” curated by alumnus and faculty member Carol Fabricatore, features drawings-on-location from spots all over New York City by department students and alumni; “Rabid Rabbit” is an exhibition showcasing original comics and illustrations from the mighty mini-comic anthology Rabid Rabbit, including work by founders and alumni C.M. Butzer, S.Y. Choi, Paul Hoppe and Ben X. Trinh and other department alumni, curated by department chair Marshall Arisman; “Evocation of Memory” features recent composite-cityscape paintings by department faculty member and alumnus Riccardo Vecchio, and is also curated by Arisman; and in “The Book Show,” viewers can peruse original, one-of-a-kind books that were created by 17 department students.
All four exhibitions will be on view in the Visual Arts Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor, November 27 – December 16. There will be an opening reception, which will include live jazz music, on Tuesday, November 28, 6 – 8pm.
