The College is bringing a collection of striking images overseas for a new exhibition entitled “SVA Subway Posters: A Half Century of Iconic Graphic Design.” The show will take place at the Taipei Artist Village in Taiwan, November 4 – 9, with a reception on Saturday, November 4, 4 – 6pm.
The exhibition includes more than 30 posters, all of which have at one time appeared on the platforms of the New York City subway system. From their earliest editions in the 1950s to the present, the posters have been designed by distinguished illustrators and designers such as Paul Davis, Milton Glaser, Marvin Mattleson, Kevin O’Callaghan, Tony Palladino, Stefan Sagmeister, Paula Scher, George Tscherny, James Victore and Robert Weaver, all members of the College’s faculty and all under the creative direction of SVA founder and Chairman Silas H. Rhodes. Intended as an advertising and recruiting vehicle, the collection of posters presents a glimpse of the College’s history and the array of its innovative design and talent.
