A pair of recent SVA alumni are currently competing for photographic prizes in the UK. The National Portrait Gallery in London has just announced the shortlist for the fourth year of its prestigious Photographic Portrait Prize, and Anna Bauer (BFA 2005 Photography) is among the nominees. One of four photographers on the shortlist, Bauer is a finalist for the £12,000 prize, culled from a pool of 5,065 images entered by 2,021 photographers from around the world. Bauer’s work will also be included in the gallery’s “2006 Photographic Portrait Prize” exhibition, which will be on view November 8, 2006 – February 18, 2007.
Also in London, Amy Stein (MFA 2006 Photography, Video and Related Media) is a finalist for “Your Gallery,” a competition/exhibition presented by The Guardian newspaper and the Saatchi Gallery. Work by 30 artists has been posted online, and 10 will be chosen through votes submitted by viewers to go on display in The Guardian’s offices, October 24 – 28.
