Every year, the College creates a huge number of print and online-media projects – from course catalogues and promotional materials to posters and Web pages, the creative team at the Visual Arts Press is behind the design of every single one. And every year, the Press’ creations win awards and recognitions from the country’s top design organizations.
The most recent kudos come from the University and College Designers Association, which just announced its 36th annual design awards. The Visual Arts Press was cited 10 times by the UCDA – three gold awards: the undergraduate catalog, the fall 2005 Visual Arts Journal and Paul Sahre’s “How Bad do You Want to be Good?” subway platform poster; two silver awards: SVA’s 2005-06 handbook and the College’s Web site; and five awards of excellence: the Texas National Portfolio Day poster, the spring 2006 Visual Arts Journal, the BFA Photography Department’s Class of 2005 portfolio, the College’s spring calendar of events and the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department’s thesis catalogue. All of the winning entries will appear at the “2006 UCDA Design Show,” which will be on display at the 36th Annual Design Conference in Austin, Texas, September 16 – 19.
