Two SVA alumni are involved in some macabre entertainments this summer. Ben Aguillon (MFA 2004 Computer Art) served as a color and lighting technical director on Sony Pictures’ new animated feature Monster House. The film—in which three teens discover that their neighbor’s house is really a living, breathing, scary monster—features the voices of Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jason Lee.
Perhaps more peculiar is a project being undertaken by Kieran Vogel (BFA 1998 Cartooning). Our Prisioner is Vogel’s interactive Web program where viewers have complete control over his life for six months. Visitors to www.ourprisoner.com can watch Vogel nearly 24 hours a day, in real time and unedited, as he follows directions submitted via e-mail by the site’s visitors—ranging from what time he wakes up and what he eats to who he dates and what dances he does at parties. According to the site, “Kieran has never earned more than $10,000 a year working in pet stores while in pursuit of his lifelong dream of becoming a published writer and cartoonist. Kieran has now decided that almost anyone could do a better job in making his decisions and he is willing to prove it.”
