The Visual Arts Gallery is warming up the summer months with the simultaneous openings of four new exhibitions. “Persona: Personal and Public,” “Social Layers, Formal Times,” “Scale” and “Postpartum” are all going on view July 28 – August 12 at the gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor, with an all-inclusive opening reception on Tuesday, August 1, 6 – 8pm.
Each exhibition features its own slate of artists and particular topical approach. “Persona: Personal and Public” has photography, painting and video by current students, all addressing contemporary issues of gender and identity; “Social Layers, Formal Times” uses sculpture and video installation to address the process of making art; “Scale” features several examinations of the pictorial issues involved in large-scale compositions; and “Postpartum” spotlights the work of recent MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department graduates, focusing on the theme of human interaction.
