It’s no surprise when SVA alumni are recognized by prestigious institutions; awards and commendations come in regularly from organizations around the world. This week, however, an alumnus got a nod from someplace a little different: on March 13, Chris Stein (1973 Fine Arts) was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the band Blondie. Shirley Manson, lead singer of the pop group Garbage, inducted Stein, bandmate Deborah Harry and the rest of Blondie at the induction ceremony. According to a visibly pleased Stein, the ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria’s Grand Ballroom, “put dents in my cynicism.”

In other entertainment news, Ed Evangelista (BFA 1983 Advertising) is featured as a judge on the new TV reality series American Inventor, which airs Thursday nights at 9pm on ABC. The series, from the producers of American Idol, is a search for America’s best new inventors and their inventions.
