Artist Kurt Lightner, a 2004 graduate of the MFA Fine Arts Department, has two exhibitions opening this month in two parts of the country. First is “Five Acres,” an exhibition of Lightner’s collage pieces, at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri. These works use hundreds of cutout pieces of hand-painted Mylar to create layered and detailed collages that depict real and imaginary landscapes. “Five Acres” opens Friday, February 3, and runs through Sunday, April 2.
Back in the northeast the following week, Lightner is opening “Slow Dissolve,” a collection of new works at Clementine Gallery’s new space, 623 West 27th Street, in New York City. The show begins Thursday, February 9, with a reception from 6 – 8pm, and will be on view until Saturday, March 11.
