Since April 2005, Melissa von Ludwig (BFA 2002 Photography) has been driving a pedicab in NYC: the pedal-powered taxis in which an athletic driver wheels customers around the city. Along the way, Ludwig has been documenting the experience for her “Pedicab Project” – a collection of photographs and journal entries that record the experiences of Ludwig, several other female pedicab drivers and their passengers. The first published result is a Pedicab Girls of NYC 2006 wall calendar, with each month featuring a photo of a different female driver Ludwig has encountered; she is also working on a “Pedicab Project” gallery exhibition and a book that Ludwig describes as “Nickel and Dimed meets Bridget Jones’ Diary.”
