Giving Moore

January 6, 2006

On Monday, December 19, 2005, award-winning actress Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven, The Hours) visited the College to add her voice to a BFA Film, Video and Animation Department class project. Six students in Alice Elliott’s Documentary Workshop course — second-year students Cortney Hedlund, Erin Johnson and Brian Dalton; and third-year students Michael Distelkamp, Verena Faden and Sung Sook Jung — worked to create a public service announcement for Reach Out and Read (ROR), a new program at Bellevue Hospital’s Pediatric Clinic. The five-minute PSA was written, directed and edited by the students, and the final touch was added by Moore, who volunteered to record a voiceover narration in the department’s sound-recording facilities.

The PSA is part of an effort to raise funds for ROR, a program that helps doctors give books to children who visit the clinic, creating positive associations with reading and encouraging regular doctor’s visits.
