When Starbucks decided to launch a new line of premium coffees, they wanted the look to match the taste. Each variety of Black Apron Exclusives – one will be rolled out every three months for the rest of the year – will feature packaging custom designed by Lane Twitchell (MFA 1995 Illustration as Visual Essay). The initial coffee, out this month, is Kenya Kirinyaga; the box features The Planters, Twitchell’s work of intricately hand-cut paper that, according to the company, “reflects the attention farmers give to each of the coffees.”


In addition to his work for Starbucks, Twitchell will be contributing work to “Loveless: Endorsing the Shoegazer Revival,” an exhibition taking place at Team Gallery, 527 West 26th Street, March 11 – April 8.
