The New York Times Magazine recently ran its second annual student photography contest, “Capture the Times.” This past weekend the winner was announced: Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao, a 2005 graduate from the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department, whose work was selected from over 200 applicants. His winning entry – In the Shadow of the No. 7 Line, a series of digitally manipulated, large-format photographs taken in sections of Queens that exist under the elevated tracks of the MTA’s 7 train – was published in the Sunday, September 11 issue of the Magazine as a six-page color photo spread.
