Each year, the local chapter of computer-graphics organization SIGGRAPH assembles a distinguished jury of industry professionals to select work for the Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival (MetroCAF), a one-day exhibition of computer animation, motion graphics and computer visualization from college students throughout the region. This year’s edition of MetroCAF features 24 works, chosen from over 100 submissions, and more than half of those selections come from members of the BFA Computer Art Department’s class of 2005: Jordan Blit, Mark Corotan, Travis Griggs, Rie Ito, Nitant Karnik, Grace Lee, Miriam Margulies, Carolina Moya, Ylli Orana, Amanda Pecharsky, Mark Rohrer, Anton Tokar, Beldon Wolson and Kirill Yeretsky. Their work will be on display Monday, September 26, 7 – 9pm, at FIT’s Haft Auditorium, 227 West 27th Street. Admission is $10; free for SIGGRAPH members; $5 with a valid student ID.
In other BFA Computer Art news, a suggestion by the department’s Director of Operations Kate Schaffer led to the College’s recent donation of 30 Apple Macintosh computers and 25 monitors to Lawyers for Children (LFC), an organization that provides free legal and social work services to children in NYC. In a letter of thanks to SVA President David Rhodes, LFC Executive Director Karen J. Freedman wrote, “Gifts of this magnitude have an immediate and powerful impact on our ability to serve our young clients.”
