At the end of each year, the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department pulls out all the stops for the Dusty Film Festival. From May 2 – 4, the department will be screening senior thesis projects at the Loews 34th Street movie theater, 312 West 34th Street: May 2 – 3, 6 – 11pm; Wednesday, May 4, noon – midnight. The films screened will feature a wide variety of themes and styles, ranging from witty fictions to gritty documentaries to whimsical animations; there will be an Animation Sidebar, featuring back-to-back animations, on Wednesday, May 4, 7pm – midnight. Admission is free, and no tickets are required. The most current screening schedule is available at www.schoolofvisualarts.edu/dusty.

In addition to the screenings, the 16th annual festival will include two special events. Then it’s time for the Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception on Monday, May 9, 7pm, at the Kips Bay Theater, 570 Second Avenue. Students will receive awards in nine categories, including Outstanding Achievement in Film, Outstanding Achievement in Stop-Motion Animation and Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography, presented by some of the biggest names in the business; scheduled presenters include Academy Award-winning actress Ellen Burstyn and TV star Vincent D’Onofrio.
