Each year, the Society of Illustrators (SOI) selects students for both scholarships and inclusion in an exhibition of student work at the SOI. For 2005, Mickey Duzyj (BFA 2004 Illustration) is the winner of a $4,000 scholarship for his submission to the Call for Entries 2006 Poster Competition. Several other current students and recent graduates of the BFA Illustration Department – students April Bushnell (second year), Ronal Davis (second year) and Max Turner (senior), along with alumni Anthony LaSeur, Andrea Preston and William Thompson (all BFA 2004) – will have winning work on display in the SOI exhibition, 128 East 63rd Street, May 11 – 28.
Also, American Illustration, which puts together a perennial book and Web site featuring some of the year’s best work in the field, has selected 13 SVA alumni for inclusion in its 24th annual publication: Michael DeFeo (BFA 1995 Graphic Design), Nathan Fox (MFA 2002 Illustration as Visual Essay), Douglas Fraser (MFA 1986 Illustration as Visual Essay), Eddie Guy (MFA 1986 Illustration as Visual Essay), Tomer Hanuka (BFA 2000 Illustration), John Hendrix (MFA 2003 Illustration as Visual Essay), Nora Krug (MFA 2004 Illustration as Visual Essay), Hanoch Piven (BFA 1992 Graphic Design), Stephen Savage (MFA 1996 Illustration as Visual Essay; and instructor, BFA Illustration and Cartooning), Yuko Shimizu (MFA 2003 Illustration as Visual Essay; and instructor, BFA Illustration and Cartooning), Sarah Olinger-Stout (MFA 2004 Illustration as Visual Essay), Ai Tatebayashi (MFA 2004 Illustration as Visual Essay) and Sam Weber (BFA 1994 Advertising). Several members of the faculty were also chosen for their outstanding work: Steve Brodner, Mirko Ilic, Peter Kuper, Jonathon Rosen and Bruce Waldman.
