A delegation from SVA, headed by Executive Vice President Anthony P. Rhodes, will travel to Japan and South Korea this week to host and participate in several alumni and admissions events. In Seoul, “Tear Sheet,” an exhibition of work by alumni from the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department, will be on view at Sangmyung University Graduate Art and Design School Gallery, 1-38 Dongsoon-dong, Choru-gu. Exhibition dates are April 8 – 15, with an opening reception on Friday, April 8, 5 – 7pm. Approximately 400 works by 100 SVA alumni will be on display, including published books and tear sheets from magazines and newspapers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Rolling Stone. Marshall Arisman, chair of the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department, will deliver a lecture entitled “Fusion: Words and Images” on Saturday, April 9, 2pm, at the Zero One Center in Hyehwa-dong, Jung-gu.
In Tokyo, SVA will host a distinguished artist lecture by world-renowned graphic designer Shigeo Fukuda. It will be held at Roppongi Academy Hills, 40th floor, in Minato-Ku, on Tuesday, April 12, 6 – 7:30pm. Both Arisman and Fukuda have received the prestigious Masters Series Award (Arisman in 2003 and Fukuda in 2001), granted by the College every year to a groundbreaking visual artist, designer, photographer or illustrator who, over the course of his/her career, has been recognized as a great visual communicator of our time.
