This week sees the beginning of Hanukkah, the annual Jewish festival of lights. BFA Fine Arts Department instructor Tobi Kahn is contributing a unique note to the celebration with “Avoda: Objects of Ritual” at Rutgers-Newark University’s Paul Robeson Gallery, 350 Martin Luther King Boulevard. The exhibition, which is on display through Friday, December 17, features Kahn’s handcrafted Hanukkah menorahs, Passover Seder plates, Sabbath spice boxes and other functional religious artworks. The exhibition coincides with the publication of Objects of the Spirit: Ritual and the Art of Tobi Kahn by Avoda and Hudson Hills Press earlier this year, which features photos of more than 75 of Kahn’s pieces.
