On Tuesday, September 7, SVA opened its new Student Center at 217 East 23rd Street, next to the College’s New Residence building. Ready for the first day of classes, the center features a lounge area, a coffee bar and a café for students who need a quick break to refuel between sessions in the studio. Student Activities Coordinator Donald Hudec has hired five student managers and eight student staffers for the center, helping to ensure that many of the Student Center operations are very much in the hands of the students.
Hudec is working with student leaders to program the center’s entertainment area, which will be able to accommodate live events such as the VASA and WSVA-sponsored voter awareness concert that will be held on Thursday, October 7, at 7pm. The two long, Plexiglas-fronted walls that frame the main lounge area will be used to show student artwork, beginning with an upcoming display of work by the student staff. The center is open Monday through Friday, 11am – 11pm; Saturday and Sunday, noon – 6pm.
